I haven’t taken pictures of my oldest son in quite some time. The light outside was so beautiful last Saturday morning, so I decided to ask if I could take his picture. He told me no. I don’t really recall how I finally talked him into it, but I am so glad I did. When he asked how long it would take, I told him 30 minutes. He made me set the timer. He was all smiles during our session. I can’t reveal what I had to say and do to get him to laugh like that.

I have had to skip a few weeks of my 26 week project, but I am back this week with a new excitement about seeing this project through to the end. The theme for this week is “takes my breath away”. I started thinking of things that take my breath away, and I couldn’t help but think of spring and how everything just comes alive. I always get so excited every year when the wisteria blooms. It is so beautiful and magical.

My baby boy turned two a few months ago. I’m having a really hard time with this. I still want to call him my baby, but he isn’t. He’s a big boy now. He runs away from me when I try to take his picture. That is why I have so many pictures of him in his crib, and these are no different. After chasing him around outside for what seemed like hours, I brought him inside and put him in his crib. He can’t run from me in there. I managed to get a few pictures of him that I just love. Wait. If he still sleeps in a crib, that means he’s still a baby, right?

This is self portrait week and I must say I am really not good at these. Focusing and posing is so hard when you can’t look through the viewfinder. I didn’t get to take a new self portrait this week, so I am posting one I took in September. It still cracks me up when I look at it.

I had to skip week four, but I am back in the circle for week five. I have to say that this 26 week project has been more challenging than I thought it would be. For the month of March our technique is “framing” and our theme for week five is “favorite childhood book”. I immediately thought of this picture of my son reading his Corduroy book. It’s an older picture, but I thought it fit the theme perfectly. I just love the light here and he just looks so sweet. ♥

It’s week three of my 26 week project and boy was this week challenging, but I love trying new things and pushing myself to be creative. For the month of February our technique is “cinemagraph” and our theme for week three is “the people who keep me sane”. I wanted a picture of my children laying on the bed playing with my husband. It wound up being kind of a crazy setting. It makes me laugh to look at it now because I can remember all the crying and pouting that took place in between shots. I still love it though because this is totally them and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

It’s week two of my 26 week project and I am so excited! This is such a fun experience for me. The theme for week two is “let’s get close”. I decided to try and get a picture of my little man giving me a kiss, but he just wanted to look at the camera. He was so intrigued by the beeping from the timer. I just love the soft window light and how it shines through his messy hair.

I promised myself that I would blog more often this year, so I thought I would share a few recent favorites of my boys. They melt my heart. ♥

As a photographer, I am always looking for ways to challenge myself. That is why I am so excited to take on a new project this year, a 26 week project. There are 11 other AMAZINGLY talented photographers who are taking on this project with me. Each month we will have a different technique to work on and each week we will have a new theme. For the month of January our technique is “unique lighting” and our theme for week one is “view from up here”. After you see my picture, be sure to continue clicking through the different photographer’s links so you can see the complete circle. Don’t forget to come back in two weeks to see our next theme!

I photographed this sweet family back in September. I can’t believe I never shared their pictures. What a gorgeous family, not to mention how beautiful their house is. Their baby boy was a perfect angel the entire time. Sessions like this make me realize how much I love my job. ♥
